Mary was born on the family farm in Waunakee, Wisconsin, on August 16, 1927, to Aloysius Endres and Monica Schwab Endres. Sister Francis Assisi was involved in civic community action programs as a board member of the Fond du Lac Area Economic Opportunity Committee, Inc.; she was a founding member when the Economic Opportunity Office became ADVOCAP, Inc. While deeply proud of her Kansas roots, she loved to travel and visit historical sites across the country often riding for days on a bus to reach her destination.
